Mechanism of Action
Abacavir Sulfate is an antiviral agent consisting of carbocyclic synthetic nucleoside analogue that is intracellularly converted by enzymes. It transforms into active metabolite carbovir triphosphate and inhibits the action of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase. It’s done by competing with the dGTP incorporating viral DNA. This process terminates the growth of viral DNA and further DNA chain elongation to carry on the viral effect.
